Frequently Asked Question
What kind of RAM can I use? What is the difference between low voltage, ECC, and non-ECC?
Last Updated 8 years ago
- Low voltage RAM, like the name leads to believe, uses less power and can run at a minimum of 1.25V.
- ECC or error correcting code detects and reports memory errors. ECC can even correct errors without interrupting the system. ECC is mainly used for servers and critical applications that require extra security and stability.
- Non ECC is recommended for regular use like a home PC and gaming system.
To check your RAM, right-click the task bar and select "Start Task Manager." Click the "Performance" tab and in the lower left corner, you will see how much RAM you are currently using. If you have less than 25% of total RAM available, you may want to upgrade.
